Robert Downey Jr (The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows) heads up the strong, returning cast for the third installment in the Iron Man films, along with a couple new major additions in Guy Pierce (Lawless, Prometheus) and Ben Kingsley (The Dictator, Hugo). Though a minor one, Pierce’s role as “Aldrich Killian” ties into the next evolution of the Iron Man suit. Via the comics, Killian is the scientist at the head of Extremis, a modified super soldier serum. With it, Tony Stark is capable of accessing digital tech (satellites, security, etc) with his mind and control his armor remotely. Kingsley takes on the role of “The Mandarin”, the antagonist of this entry. In the comic books Mandarin is a martial arts master that dabbles in alien technology and ten rings of power, but it’s not clear how related the film version will be to the comics.
From the trailer, the story looks to be a very dark time for Tony Stark. He’s attacked in his home and, on top of that, doesn’t seem to have good control of the Extremis armor. The first two films have done well to portray Stark as a witty, cocky, bad a** staple in the Marvel Film Universe, but this entry seeks to bring more of a human element than the previous entries.
This next phase of Marvel movies looks to start of with a bang and Iron Man 3 is certainly leading the charge. More Avengers should be hinted at throughout the individual character movies before Avengers 2 drops and I will be checking for a teaser after the credits. Must See.
*Update: Twitter and Facebook followers/supporters have been asked to supply theories on how Iron Man could possibly save the 13 people that fell from the plane. Comment your theories below!

He’ll have the people connect to each other, form a circle and he’ll land them safely once they get to a certain altitude.
I agree with Genius. He’ll have em form a chain by holding on to one another’s hand. I feel like he’ll land em somewhere soft. Where exactly? Hmm..
I’m going to assume that a bale of hay won’t work from this high of a distance, like in Assassin’s Creed… right?
LMAAAooo
I think it’ll be more like a snowflake with him in the middle so that he can use his thrusters to slow down the fall.
When Iron Man leaves the plane he’s wearing the Mark V armor (the briefcase). Later, the armor looks a bit different when gathering some of the people in the air. With the Extremis armor coming into play, its entirely plausible that Tony will access multiple suits remotely to help catch everyone.
THAT is interesting… So we’re discarding my Assassin’s Creed theory, to be clear?
You never know lol
Well thanks guys for taking my holding hands theory, but if one suit can only hold 4, and only the fans really knowing about the Extremis armor, he may very well deploy to suits to help out.
I’m going cliche’ here. It’s a dream (nightmare) sequence.
Nah, multiple suits seems to be the consensus and I agree.
In production photos early on, they show them all holding onto each other. So yes, they link up and he lands them in the water.
